The map is labeled in both English and French.
Interested parties are invited to visit http://www.enermap.com/canadamap.html for more information and ordering instructions.
Details include power plants, transmission lines, major substations, utility service territories, and more. Cities, towns, rivers and lakes, topography, and other elements enhance the map and provide the viewer with a complete picture of the Canadian electric power industry.
"We could find no single, definitive map of the energy infrastructure of Canada," said Jason McMahan of ENERmap. "We saw a need, and decided to fulfill it."
Inset maps display thematic features such as provincial generation by technology, imports and exports to the United States and to other provinces, and 2002 Industrial/Utility generation.
"Developing this map was a difficult task because information sources are much more fragmented in Canada than in the US. An individual company's infrastructure can cover areas the size of entire NERC regions, and load centers are often remote. And, of course, Canada is a bilingual society."
Continued McMahan, "We've tackled all of these challenges and are confident that this is the most comprehensive map available detailing the Canadian electric power system."
The 2003 US Canadian Electric Power System map is available from ENERmap.
