BLACK & VEATCH FORMS GLOBAL RENEWABLE ENERGY GROUP
Overland Park, Kan. - May 5, 2003 - Black & Veatch today announced the formation of its global Renewable Energy Group, which provides comprehensive project services for renewable energy projects in the areas of wind, solar, biomass, hydroelectric, geothermal and ocean energy. Black & Veatch has been involved in renewable energy projects since designing a hydroelectric project in 1915, and has been continuously involved with other forms of renewable energy technologies.
The newly formed "virtual" group draws upon expertise broadly available throughout the company, specifically the energy and water sectors, and is now structured to better serve clients' needs and meet the opportunities presented by this rapidly growing market.
"Black & Veatch has a rich and long history in renewable energy dating back to the founding of the company more than 88 years ago," said Black & Veatch Chairman, President and CEO Len C. Rodman. "This group will continue to focus on providing our clients with services that enhance the growing interests of their constituents in environmental stewardship and renewable energy."
"Most recently, the Renewable Energy Group has been involved in the support of nearly 500 megawatts of wind energy projects in addition to our traditional strengths in other technologies," said Dr. Larry Stoddard, a senior manager in the Renewable Energy Group. "Wind is just one component of our renewable energy project portfolio. We execute a full range of services for all renewables on a global basis. Within the past year we have reviewed or participated in renewable energy projects in more than 30 countries around the world."
The Renewable Energy Group is being formed to respond to emerging renewable energy opportunities both in the United States and internationally.
"Various national, state and local governments are making commitments to renewable energy," said Dr. Stoddard. "Further, international agreements are requiring adherence to green energy principles. In addition to strong regulatory drivers for renewable energy, technology innovations and lowered costs make renewable technologies increasingly competitive. With the formation of our Renewable Energy Group, we are well-positioned to assist our clients with these opportunities."
Black & Veatch's Renewable Energy Group consists of experts in all renewable energy technologies with the ability to perform strategic analyses, feasibility studies, design-build, owner's engineering and independent engineering, making it a full-service provider.
"Through Black & Veatch's extensive network of regional and global offices, we are able to leverage the vast resources within the company to execute projects spanning all areas of sustainable energy," said Dr. Stoddard.
