Demand for electricity in B.C. expected to grow by 40 per cent in next two decades

January 20, 2014

B.C.'s economy is growing, and the demand for power is growing with it.

In case you missed it, last November the Province of B.C. announced a 10-year plan for BC Hydro rates that calls for an increase of 9 per cent on April 1, 2014.

It's all about continuing to provide an affordable, reliable electricity system for British Columbians while making the right investments to renew our infrastructure and make upgrades and repairs to meet that growing demand. These investments are why you'll see changes in your BC Hydro rates.

Power Smart programs available to reduce the impacts of a rate increase

Depending on the size of your business, the 9 per cent rate increase will affect each business' monthly bill differently. More information about what the rate increase will mean to businesses of different sizes will be available in March 2014.

Power Smart programs can help take the sting out of rate increases. BC Hydro will invest $1.6 billion in Power Smart programs over the term of the 10-year plan, and we encourage you to start taking advantage of our programs.
