Georgia Power adds 2,600+ Authorized Payment Locations
Retail locations offer payment flexibility and local convenience for customers

February 26, 2014

Georgia Power announced that it has added more than 2,600 new Authorized Payment Locations (APLs) across the state. The new APL locations allow customers to pay their Georgia Power bills where they shop at a time that's convenient for them. Locations include retailers such as Kroger, Ingles, Rite Aid, Publix, Walmart, Kmart and Piggly Wiggly, with payments processed through Western Union and the CheckFreePay® walk-in bill payment service from Fiserv, Inc.

When combined with the company's 131 individual business offices, APLs provide additional payment flexibility by offering evening and weekend hours. Payments can be made in any amount and will be immediately posted to the customer's account.

"We know it is important for our customers to have multiple, easy ways to pay their bills and to minimize the time it takes to make a payment," said Mike Hazelton, senior vice president of marketing for Georgia Power. "The new retail locations add a tremendous level of convenience not only for customers who prefer to pay their bills in person, but also for customers who need to make a payment immediately at night or on weekends."

In order to make a payment at an APL, customers should bring their current Georgia Power bill or have their full account number. All APLs accept cash and some will also accept debit cards. However, credit cards and checks are not accepted at any APL. Payments made at APLs will include a low transaction fee of $1.50 and will be processed in real time.

The addition of APLs as a payment option is the latest way Georgia Power is working to make doing business with the company easier for customers. In 2013, the company announced a variety of new customer initiatives including an enhanced mobile version of GeorgiaPower.com, which allows customers to check their balance and pay bills from their mobile device. The company also launched My Power Usage, which helps customers track their energy use and anticipate their bill, and added assistive technology to GeorgiaPower.com making the website easier for customers with disabilities to navigate.
