Con Edison Honors Elite Eight in Multifamily Energy-Efficiency Program Utility Honors Best 2013 Performers
Eight building owners, property managers and contractors are receiving honors from Con Edison for their commitment to making large residential buildings more energy efficient.
The winners were the leading 2013 performers in Con Edison's Multifamily Energy-Efficiency program. That program provides owners of residential buildings with five to 75 units free energy-efficiency surveys and incentives for heating and lighting upgrades to common areas such as hallways and laundry rooms.
Once a building is enrolled, Con Edison's Green Team will provide residents with free compact fluorescent bulbs and smart power strips. Apartments in buildings with Con Edison firm gas heating accounts also get water-saving devices. Owners who take advantage of the program end up with savings on their utility bills, lower carbon emissions and a more comfortable, inviting place for tenants to live.
'Our Multifamily Energy Efficiency program provides tremendous incentives for building owners and managers to make money-saving upgrades,' said Gregory Elcock, who manages the program for Con Edison. 'The honorees we recognize today made buildings more marketable and comfortable. They also contributed to keeping our environment clean and sustainable.'
The winners played a role in the Multifamily's successful 2013. The upgrades made last year save more than 17 million kilowatt hours, and more than 1.8 million therms.
That's the equivalent of taking more than 2,800 cars off the road, and avoiding the release of more than 16,000 tons of carbon dioxide into the air.
Two winners earned three awards apiece.
Con Edison named Bronx-based Prestige Management its Property Manager of the Year. In addition, Prestige got recognition as the manager whose upgrades achieved the most gas savings and the most electric savings.
The cooperative at 530 East 159th St. in the Bronx owned by 530 East 159th St. HDFC was the Co-op or Condo of the Year. This 44-unit building got new roof and pipe insulation, an energy management system and high-efficiency lighting with motion sensors. The cooperative was also recognized for work that will produce the most annual gas savings and the most savings from work in common areas.
The other winners were:
- Riverdale Electrical Services of the Bronx, which led the way among contractors in producing the most electrical savings.
- EnTech Digital Controls of Lakewood, N.J., the contractor that produced the most gas savings.
- New Green Movement of Yonkers, the new contractor with the most electrical savings.
- Newtech Energy of Westchester County, the new contractor with the most gas savings.
- The Palm Rio Owners Corp., owner of 333 East 119th St., Manhattan. This building had the most savings from the installation of free energy-efficiency measures in the units.
- Linden Towers Co-op No. 4 Inc. for work at 29-09 137th St. in Flushing, Queens, the building with the highest electric savings.
