Kissimmee Power Plant Honored
Kissimmee Utility Authority's Cane Island Power Park has been honored with a Highly Protected Risk award from FM Global, one of the world's largest commercial property insurers.
The award recognizes facilities that put in place all reasonable loss prevention measures to protect buildings, equipment and contents from all losses including natural hazards. Only 0.4% of FM Global's international clients received the award in 2013, and only five power plants in the southeast United States have earned the award.
Cane Island Power Park is home to four natural gas-fueled generating units with a combined capacity of 735 megawatts. The facility is co-owned by KUA and Florida Municipal Power Agency and operated by KUA.
Founded in 1901, KUA is Florida's sixth largest community-owned utility powering 64,000 customers in Osceola County, Fla.
FMPA is a wholesale power company owned by 31 municipal electric utilities. FMPA provides economies of scale in power generation and related services to support community-owned electric utilities. The members of FMPA serve approximately two million Floridians.
