Dominion Gives Half A Million Dollars In Grants Supporting Environmental Initiatives Across Virginia
Thirty-three organizations will share $500,000 in support of environmental stewardship initiatives, thanks to the Dominion Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Dominion Resources, parent company of Dominion Virginia Power.
"It is our privilege to partner with these organizations on so many great environmental projects," said Pamela Faggert, chief environmental officer for Dominion. "Preserving and protecting the environment is one of the most important responsibilities we're tasked with to ensure that future generations can enjoy all that Virginia has to offer."
These organizations will receive funding for programs supporting initiatives that protect and preserve natural habitats and open spaces, prevent pollution, make nature accessible, and educate the public about environmental stewardship. Recipients include:
Chesapeake Bay Exploration Lab, Virginia Beach: Friends of First Landing State Park will create an exploration lab to teach visitors about the health of the Chesapeake Bay through hands-on learning stations.
Canoe and Kayak Launch, Prince George County: Friends of the Lower Appomattox River (FOLAR) will enhance accessibility to a canoe and kayak launch along the Appomattox River.
Chestnut Connector Trail, Fairfax County: The Fairfax County Park Foundation will build a new natural-surface trail connecting existing trails to the forest in southwest Lake Fairfax Park.
"Plant, Grow, Harvest!" Charlottesville: City Schoolyard Garden program will cultivate six urban, organic community gardens with more than 110 edible and native species of plants and vegetables.
Since 2003, the Dominion Foundation has given more than $20 million in support of environmental initiatives. For complete details and a full list of this year's recipients, please visit: www.dom.com/about/community/environmental-stewardship-grants-program.jsp.
