LEIDOS Engineering EXPERT Tapped for Regional Energy Alliance Board

Leidos Engineering's John Nicol was recently elected to serve a two-year term as a member of the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (MEEA) board of directors. Nicol, energy program director at Leidos, has more than 32 years of experience in providing energy efficiency to business customers and implementing energy programs.

Since 2001, Nicol has played a key role with Leidos Engineering in providing direction for the Wisconsin Focus on Energy Large Energy User program, the Ameren Illinois ActOnEnergy program and the ComEd Smart Ideas large customer program. The Focus on Energy program has worked with eligible Wisconsin residents and businesses to install cost-effective energy efficiency and renewable energy projects, and the program was featured in a U.S. Department of Energy report earlier this year. The report, developed through the State and Local Energy Efficiency Action Network (SEE Action) pointed to the Focus on Energy program as an example of how to provide cost-effective industrial energy efficiency programs.

Nicol's experience in energy efficiency includes working as an energy research engineer at the Oakridge National Laboratory, consulting on international projects in Europe, presenting industrial program opportunities to the U.S. House Representatives and working with many electric and natural gas utilities on energy efficiency program development and management. A registered professional mechanical engineer, Nicol holds a bachelor's degree in environmental engineering and a master's degree in mechanical engineering ' both from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana.

MEEA is a membership organization of state and local governments, energy utilities, research institutes, manufacturers, energy service providers and advocacy organizations working to advance energy efficiency in the 13 Midwestern states. Founded in 2000, the nonprofit organization has worked collaboratively with all stakeholders to support programs, policies, education and training initiatives and emerging technologies that have produced significant energy efficiency investment, energy and cost savings, economic growth and enhanced environmental preservation across the region.
