Hydro-Québec
Hydro-Québec to Power First Formula E Races in Montréal

April 5, 2017

Hydro-Québec is proud to serve as title sponsor for the Montréal ePRIX, to be held in downtown Montréal on July 29 and 30, 2017, showcasing all-electric vehicles. A leading force in the energy revolution, Hydro-Québec will supply clean fuel to the electric vehicles built by some of the world's biggest electric vehicle manufacturers.

"The Formula E in Montréal isn't just a race, it's a message that we want to send to our citizens and to our friends around the planet. That message is that Montréal isn't afraid of innovation or change. Montréal is 100% committed to the energy transition, and transportation electrification is the backbone of our strategy. Once again, Montréal will be a trailblazer and will lead the way," stated Denis Coderre, Mayor of Montréal.

"Hydro-Québec is an active participant in transportation electrification and in the fight against climate change, thanks to our expertise and technological innovations. It is only natural that we support this major event. Our clean and renewable energy will supply not only Formula E cars, but also the electric vehicles that are taking to Québec roads in greater and greater numbers," said Éric Martel, President and CEO of Hydro-Québec.

A world-class race

Montréal will host the last two events of the 2016-2017 FIA Formula E season, presented by the FIA (Fédération internationale de l'automobile). These electric vehicle races will take place on an urban circuit about 2.5 km long and will bring together the main Formula E teams and the best drivers. Close to 15 million spectators from across the globe tune in to watch FIA Formula E races, which will be held in Montréal for the first time this summer.

About the FIA Formula E Championship

The FIA Formula E Championship is the world's first fully-electric single-seater racing series, competing on the streets against the backdrop of some of the most iconic cities - including Hong Kong, Marrakesh, Buenos Aires, Monaco, Paris, New York and Montreal. The championship represents a vision for the future of the motor industry, serving as a platform to showcase the latest innovations in electric vehicle technology and alternative energy solutions. The 2016/17 FIA Formula E Championship sees 10 teams and 20 drivers go wheel-to-wheel in 10 cities spanning five continents in the fight to be crowned Formula E champion. The inaugural season of Formula E sparked into life in September 2014 around the grounds of the Olympic Park in Beijing. The third season of the electric street racing series gets underway on October 9 in Hong Kong, with the season finale double-header in Montreal on July 29 & 30.
