AEP Ohio Earns 2017 Energy Star® Partner of the Year - Sustained Excellence Award

AEP Ohio, a utility subsidiary of American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP), has been named a 2017 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year - Sustained Excellence Award winner for continued leadership in protecting our environment through superior energy efficiency achievements. AEP Ohio's accomplishments will be recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy in Washington, D.C. on April 26, 2017.

Since 2010, AEP Ohio, along with Columbia Gas of Ohio, have worked together to bring a unified program to builders, contractors, and homebuyers across their service areas. AEP Ohio is receiving ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year Sustained Excellence recognition for its shared commitment to sponsoring ENERGY STAR certified homes and promoting ENERGY STAR certified products. Key 2016 accomplishments include:

  • Enrolling more than 130 builders, an increase of almost nine percent since 2015, and providing incentives for 2,415 ENERGY STAR certified homes, for a cumulative total of almost 12,000 since the program's inception.

  • Generating more than 14 million media impressions, and actively showcasing ENERGY STAR while participating in the local Parade of Homes, which more than 36,000 people attended.

  • Leveraging a comprehensive, multi-faceted marketing plan, incorporating both upstream and downstream incentives, to influence the sale of more than 3 million ENERGY STAR certified lighting and appliance products, saving more than 120 million kilowatt hours (kWh) in 2016 alone.

  • Providing training including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) design and sizing and mechanical ventilation strategies for builders and raters; multifamily rating guidelines, rating standards and software updates for raters; and understanding ENERGY STAR certification and energy efficiency for realtors.

In 2015 alone, ENERGY STAR and its partners saved American businesses and consumers 503 billion kilowatt hours and $34 billion dollars on their energy bills, while achieving broad emission reductions.

The 2017 Partner of the Year - Sustained Excellence Awards are bestowed upon a diverse set of organizations that have demonstrated continued leadership in energy efficiency. Winners hail from small, family-owned businesses to Fortune 500 organizations - representing energy-efficient products, services, new homes and buildings in the commercial, industrial and public sectors.
