New Hampshire Leads the Way in Energy Efficient Home Construction

May 5, 2017

With a passion and commitment to building homes that are good for families and the environment, Eversource partner Chinburg Properties of Newmarket is reducing the region's energy use one project at a time. Since making a commitment in 2012 to construct only ENERGY STAR Certified Homes, Chinburg Properties has established itself as a leader in energy efficiency, building more than 250 certified homes for families in the Granite State. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has honored Chinburg Properties' accomplishments with the 2017 ENERGY STAR Home Builder Partner of the Year Award.

"Chinburg Properties' vision for energy efficient home construction is transforming the market of home building in the region," said Penni Conner, Chief Customer Officer and Senior Vice President of Customer Care for Eversource Energy. "It's exciting to see many other builders following their lead, constructing homes with features that provide important benefits to homeowners and the environment."

The EPA also recognized The NH CORE Utilities with the 2017 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year - Sustained Excellence Award for leading efforts to protect the environment by supporting measures that help homeowners reduce their energy use; and GDS Associates with the ENERGY STAR Home Energy Rater Partner of the Year Award.

"Thanks to our partnership with ENERGY STAR, we are able to empower our customers to make a real difference by reducing their impact on the environment," Conner said. "We remain committed to helping customers and businesses access energy efficiency programs to achieve significant reductions in their energy use, greenhouse gas emissions, and energy costs."

Eversource, Liberty Utilities, the New Hampshire Electric Cooperative, and Unitil were recognized last week in Washington, DC for the successful implementation of the ENERGY STAR Certified Homes program, which is implemented in conjunction with GDS Associates, Horizon Residential Energy Services, the New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission, and the Home Builders and Remodelers Association of New Hampshire. In 2016, the program helped 707 New Hampshire homes meet requirements to achieve ENERGY STAR certification, and has increased the number of ENERGY STAR Certified Homes built in the Granite State from 2 percent to nearly 20 percent over the past decade.
