NRC Names New Resident Inspector at Byron Nuclear Plant

May 8, 2017

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has selected Christopher Hunt as the new resident inspector at the Byron nuclear power plant. The two-unit nuclear power facility is operated by Exelon Generation Co. LLC. and is located in Byron, 17 miles southwest of Rockford.

"Christopher Hunt is a knowledgeable inspector who is dedicated to the NRC's mission of protecting people and the environment. His experience, training and education will help ensure Byron meets the high standards set by the NRC," said NRC Region III Administrator Cynthia D. Pederson.

Hunt joined the agency in 2010 as a reactor technical reviewer in the NRC's Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation. He came to the Region III office in Illinois as a reactor engineer in 2014. Prior to joining the agency he served six years as an officer in the U.S. Navy's nuclear submarine force. Hunt holds a bachelor's degree in chemistry from the University of Michigan and a master's degree in engineering management from the Catholic University of America.

Each commercial nuclear power plant site in the United States has at least two resident inspectors who monitor day-to-day operations at the plant. Hunt joins NRC senior resident inspector James McGhee at the Byron facility.

The NRC resident inspectors at Byron can be reached at 815-234-5451.
