Tata Power's CGPL becomes the “neighbour of choice” through the development initiatives in Gujarat

Tata Power, through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Coastal Gujarat Power Limited (CGPL), has always focused on upliftment of communities, in and around its operational areas. Continuing with this momentum, Tata Power -CGPL in FY 17 undertook several initiatives such as livelihood, irrigation, sanitation and education programs thereby establishing CGPL as "neighbour of choice".

With a strategic focus on sustainable long-term programs across all locations, Tata Power Group companies have aligned CSR policy to five thrust areas - Primary Education with focus on girl child, Health & Drinking Water, Livelihood and Employability, Social Capital and Infrastructure, and Inclusive Growth. Following are the initiatives undertaken by CGPL in FY1 7:

  • Under Sagarbandhu program, the team along with establishment of Fishermen Training Centre' formed village development and advisory committee, micro financed fishermen boats, ground work for prawn farming and crab fattening programs etc.
  • CGPL supplied fodder for 3,600 cattle which benefited 450 cattle owners through Kanthi Area Livelihood program.
  • CGPL team in partnership with Gujarat Green Revolution Company (GGRC), launched a substantial micro irrigation programme by providing financial support to farmers, 503 hectares have been covered benefiting 263 farmers
  • A massive campaign was undertaken to educate cattle owners regarding spread of Brucellosis and also its impact on the cattle population
  • CGPL addressed the issue of "Quality Education" by promoting Learning achievement' in 132 schools in 50 villages benefiting 13,501 students
  • Sanitation (Swachh Block)- CGPL has worked in Mandvi block with an aim to ensure that all families have access to sanitary toilets and the block is "open defecation free"
  • Under Sagarbandhu program, the team along with establishment of Fishermen Training Centre' formed village development and advisory committee, Formation of SHGs, Establishment of temporary school, Provision of drinking water, Boat light, Various Fishing equipment,  micro financed fishermen boats, ground work for prawn farming and crab fattening programs etc.
  • CGPL supplied fodder for 3,600 cattle which benefited 450 cattle owners through Kanthi Area Livelihood program.
  • CGPL team in association with the Partner organization "Parjanya Ecology" has initiated fodder cultivation of NB-21 variety, created the seed back. The seed and slips are provided to 176 number of farmers for cultivation of fodder of NB-21 variety in the region.
  • Participatory Ground Water Management is a Flagship initiative of CGPL, Tata Power Company in the two blocks Mundra and Mandvi Taluka of Kutch District. CGPL has started implementation in 17 villages by strengthening the Geo-hydrological conditions in response to the water scarcity, developing mini watershed development plan through a life cycle approach; (Supply and Demand)
  • CGPL team in partnership with Gujarat Green Revolution Company (GGRC), launched a substantial micro irrigation programme by providing financial support to farmers, 503 hectares have been covered benefiting 263 farmers
  • An awareness  campaign and other preventive activities has undertaken in partnership with Abhiyan ( Partner NGO) and NDDB to educate cattle owners regarding spread of Brucellosis and also its impact on the cattle population
  • CGPL team has established 5 Waste Segregation Centres in the village under its "Waste Management Program" in coordination with the respective panchayat.
  • CGPL addressing the issue of "Quality Education" by promoting Learning achievement' in 138 schools in 50 villages benefiting 13,501 students through Shiksha Saarthi Program
  • CGPL has worked in Mandvi block with in partnership with CSPC (Coastal Salinity Prevention Cell- Tata Trust) and Government an aim to ensure that all families have access to sanitary toilets and the block is "open defecation free".

The communities appreciated efforts undertaken by CGPL in the year and thanked for the transformation brought in by the team.
