Description
Environment: 

Henkels & McCoy Group Inc. (HMG) is expanding and creating a new business entity HMI Services Inc. (HMI) which is dedicated to identifying and serving new clients in traditionally un-penetrated markets for utility engineering and construction services.

 The environment for this position will be "startup" with strong support coming from a shared services platform (H&M Shared Services Inc.) during the business startup phase. Initially, HMI will be focused on creating a business plan, starting client development activities and identifying the people and the related business process needed to implement the business plan. Longer term, it will be dedicated to growth in its defined markets.   

Position Objective

To establish a startup Finance / Accounting / Controls practice for HMI that aligns with stated business objectives. To develop and deliver consistent financial support to meet HMI strategic business objectives. To support employees, managers and operations at all levels who are in the pursuit of business for HMI. To work with H&M Shared Services to establish consistent business practices (finance / accounting) which are sustainable, executable and flexible. To positively impact field business operations by using good finance and accounting practices. To be a "key" leader of this new business entity. This is a very hands on position and will require significant flexibility as the company and role develops.

 Primary Outcomes:

  • Manages HMI Services financial and controls support platforms (various financial business administration functions) which supports HMI Services operational needs
  • Provides fiscal budgeting, forecasting and strategic analysis to support effective and profitable business outcomes:
  • Serves as a Finance leader

Major Job Elements:

Reporting

  • Develop, implement and maintain all required weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly reporting to meet the business needs for HMI Services as well as for H&M Group Inc.
  • Monitor weekly job cost reports and provides variance reports and recommendations
  • Develop pro-forma overhead calculations for large projects / programs of work
  • Provide monthly, quarterly and yearly financial analysis of all key operating matrix' identifying project/budget overruns, underperforming contracts, lagging cash flow, equipment utilization and compliance and rolling 12 month trending.  

Controls

General Controls:

  • Implement and maintain effective financial controls procedures and processes across all HMI Services business units
  • Develop, implement and manage formal PO and Purchasing guidelines for HMI Services
  • Coordinate the review of Contracts, Subcontracts and PO's for compliance with company requirement
  • Analyze the effectiveness of internal controls and implement improvements as needed
  • Develop, implement and manage administrative policies and procedures and insure consistency across all HMI Services business unitsProject Controls and Controls Management: 
  • Review project set up and P/L tracking with project teams or field management to identify potential financial risks or opportunities
  • Identify and report potential financial risk on projects. (ex. cost over- runs and under billing etc.)
  • Actively participate in all Project Status Reviews
  • Support PM Methodology by providing strong project level controls and providing the appropriate project level staffing to support the control process
  • Insure project job budgets are accurate for use in calculating backlog and revenue recognition

Cash Management

  • Implement and maintain a billing and credit and collections process to maximizing cash flow
  • Coordinate with project teams on the negotiating and approving of change orders and assist with escalated billing/collection issues.

Accounting / Payroll

  • Ensure consistent implementation of the Payroll and Work Order System (cost accounting systems) for all business units:
  • Provide oversight for all work order functions
  • Train staff on payroll and Work Order functions as required

Audit

  • Support H&M Shared Services audit function to ensure adequacy of internal controls for financial transactions, including purchase orders, payables, contracts, sub-contracts, payroll, etc.
  • Manage customer and regulatory requests for audits in conjunction with H&M Shared Services Audit functions

Provides fiscal budgeting, forecasting and strategic analysis to support effective and profitable business outcomes:

  • Manage all processes associated with budgeting and forecasting; assume stewardship of all financial reporting to include developing, tracking and trending operational budgets and forecasts
  • Manage/support annual equipment budget programs and disposition of assets
  • Provide business status updates by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data
  • Provide recommendations to senior management regarding financial performance and profitability
  • Insure accuracy of work backlog and revenue recognition are in place and managed for effective planning purposes

Serves as a Finance Leader

 

  • Proactively support the continued development of all administrative, business and systems function
  • Actively participate in the development of staff, taking a significant role in charting the career advancement of subordinates or others to insure they reach their full potential
  • Assist in the development of processes for "other" support functions within the group (i.e. tools and equipment, HR, Sales and Marketing, etc.).
  • Support a culture where H&M Group Inc. core values are the foundation of how clients, employees, vendors and subcontractors all work together in the attainment of regional business goals      
  • Ensure all employees are engaged and embrace H&M's Safety Culture
  • Monitor Finance department productivity against current project and business needs, insuring full utilization and expected administrative support levels
  • Develop detailed strategic plans of various initiatives (beyond finance) as directed by senior management
  • Coordinate real estate issues in conjunction with the H&M Shared Services Real Estate department
Requirements

Qualifications:

Education

  • BS in accounting, finance or related business, engineering, or construction disciplines
  • CPA preferred

General Experience

  • 15+ years in a financial leadership position in a related field or company (construction preferred)
  • Proven performance in running a financial function including administrative support services
  • Must have a strong proven track record in general management, project management, cost management and project profitability
  • Must have experience in managing directing and developing employees
