Description
Position Description: 

This position will be responsible for the hands-on management of the entire project development and transaction execution process for demand side energy storage projects.  The Project Director of Development will be responsible for managing and coordinating all aspects of project development and transaction execution including client and partner management, legal, engineering, design, interconnection, permitting and project investment approval activities.  The Project Director will report to the Director of Development and will work closely with the various departments to ensure successful project origination, development and execution. In nascent stage of BTM Storage team, Project Director will be responsible for building and growing the project management processes and capabilities for BTM Storage projects.

Specific Responsibilities and Duties Include:

  • Manage all aspects of the day to day transaction, project development and mergers and acquisitions, process to ensure projects are completed in the most cost effective, timely and competitive manner.
  • Work closely and seamlessly with the company's origination and business development, project finance, legal, engineering and construction teams ("Subject Matter Experts") to optimize project economics, mitigate project risks, provide regular reporting on the status of projects under development and to develop tool
  • Coordinate Subject Matter Experts to develop products for new marketing, overseeing creation and internal approval of commercial offer,  contract structure, and valuation models
  • Manage BTM Storage team and Project Valuation team interaction to ensure commercial input and timely turnaround of project valuation models
  • Conduct and coordinate all project due diligence, system design and engineering, interconnection and permitting activities, working closely with the Company's engineering and construction teams
  • Lead the preparation, review and negotiation of project documents including term sheets, project company documents, battery service agreements, site leases, security documents, interconnection agreements and  engineering/procurement/construction agreements
  • Manage customer relationship from development up to and during operation to ensure end-customer satisfaction and references and to enable cross-selling and up-selling for future opportunities
  • Supervise direct reports, as applicable, to realize their full potential and become effective project managers, engaged collaborators and thought leaders inside the organization
  • Identify resource gaps in advance and advocate / justify additional resources
  • Oversee the preparation of presentations and other written materials for key project stakeholders including power purchaser clients, incentive providers, permitting agencies, equipment suppliers, contractors, lenders and investors

Qualifications

  • Bachelors' Degree required; JD, MBA or other advanced business related degree preferred
  • 8 or more years of work experience in project finance, power project development, real estate development, or related field; work experience must include extensive experience managing complex transaction processes and client relationships and financial modeling
  • Direct experience working with demand side management programs / demand response programs preferred. 
  • Ability to travel 8-12 days a month, as required
  • Ability to perform duties in a collaborative, unstructured working environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Self-starter with strong organizational skills, extreme attention to detail and commitment to producing high quality work product, and ability to multi-task under tight time pressures
  • Ability to understand and master variety of subjects related to the development and financing of energy storage projects, including finance, tax, accounting, legal, transmission, interconnection, permitting, engineering and public policy
  • Ability to read, comprehend and negotiate legal documents including power purchase agreements, construction documents and financing documents
  • Ability to understand, interpret and apply state law, local policy and administrative procedures
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint and ability to learn new software programs
