Description
Support the design/development of employee competency training, leadership development (Duke Energy Leadership Academy) curriculums, and Talent Management/HR related content enterprise-wide. Design/Develop instructor-led training support materials for core program offerings (builds in-house or partners with vendors). Create blended learning solutions by leveraging existing learning resources or by designing/developing new content. 

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Partner with subject matter experts, and other key stakeholders to identify learning needs, measureable objectives, and desired outcomes; design/develop and recommend learning solutions to support business needs
  • Ensure learning content is engaging, creative, and innovative while maintaining the instructional integrity of learning
  • Perform detailed testing for all learning solutions for instructional soundness, interactive design, and functionality 
  • Responsible for the entire training development cycle from end-to-end 
  • Facilitate a walk-through of course content to ensure smooth hand-off to Delivery Team
  • Recommend, design, and develop creative learning solutions for program offerings, independent study/toolkits, eLearnings, etc. 
  • Create blended learning solutions which may include: scenarios, simulations, knowledge checks, mobile learning, evaluations, facilitator/participant guides, presentation decks, toolkits, podcasts, articles, action plans, job aids, role plays, videos, games, books, case studies, tests, etc.
  • Map learning content to competencies
  • Ensure training material content is clear, accurate, consistent, of high quality and follows brand guidelines 
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of learning programs and makes revisions accordingly
  • Research, evaluate, test, and recommend new learning solutions and technology
  • Stay current in learning and design trends and advancements to recommend innovative learning solutions 
  • Understands the strategy and business priorities to ensure content aligns to business needs
  • Act as a content curator; ensuring learning content is up to date, easily accessible, applicable and in a format that appeals to learners 
  • Design/develop participant and facilitator guides, PowerPoint presentations and other learning materials to support instructor-led training (face-to-face or virtual).
  • For learning technology, partner with IT, to ensure a friendly end-user experience for engaging design and functionality 
  • Create solutions that are interactive and offer high quality visual design (interactions, animations, visual aspects, flow that appeals to learners, etc.)
  • Partner with Corporate Communications (and influence where necessary) innovative and creative learning solutions that support brand guidelines
  • Provide/Create support tools that make continuous learning possible within the organization 
  • Partner with external vendors 
  • Lead project teams to define and manage deliverables 
Requirements

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 6+ years of relevant experience in learning and development
  • 3+ years of experience using Authoring Tools (Articulate Storyline and/or Adobe Captivate), Learning Management Systems (SumTotal), SCORM compliant architecture, Instructional Development Tools, or similar tools
  • 5 - 7 years of instructional design, project management, and training experience - designing/developing content for soft skill and leadership development curriculum

Desired Qualifications

  • Extensive experience designing and creating instructor-led training and blended-learning content for soft skill and leadership development curriculums
  • Deep understanding of management principles and/or prior management experience a plus 
  • Balance of both creative and technical design expertise
  • Apply learning theories to design, develop, and publish learning content; demonstrated knowledge of adult learning principles and best practice solutions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be innovative, results/detail oriented, and collaborative
  • Able to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines and is quality focused
  • Excellent planning, documentation and organization skills; strong attention to details and high standards of quality; strong commitment to continuous improvement
  • Results driven, self-starter, and open to change
  • Outstanding time management and organizational skills
  • Must be able to adapt to several roles: training, consulting, facilitating, and collaborating up, down, and across the organization
  • Knowledge of a systematic approach to designing/developing training products and services
