The Quality Metrology Engineer will be a leader and  vital member of a growing Quality Metrology team.  This team is responsible for supporting New Product Development Engineering & Manufacturing Operations with technical leadership in Quality Engineering & Metrology Application Techniques.  These techniques include Design for Test/Measure, GD&T application for Drawing Review, Product Quality Planning, Metrology Techniques for Manufacturing Control, and Total Quality Management technical problem solving.  The Quality Metrology Team provides accurate, timely measurement and data collection across the entire array of Milwaukee Tool products through the entire life cycle.

Responsibilities & Deliverables:

  • Own and execute the Drawing Review and Critical Dimension Analysis Process on the entire array of Milwaukee Tool Products and components by comprehending Engineering Design intent and translating into blueprints with advanced GD&T.  This involves interaction with Design Engineers and other cross-functional team members to produce successful, value-added results.
  • Quickly and effectively translate blueprints into measurement strategies using a variety of measurement tools including Optical and Touch Probe CMMs, Optical Comparators, manual gages.  This position will specifically require the hands on programming of a Zeiss CMM running Calypso, Mitutoyo running MCosmos, or OGP running MeasureMind as well as several other automated or software driven measurement tools.
  • Own and execute the elements of the Quality Plan execution especially as it pertains to New Metrology Implementation and Control Plan Implementation at both internal manufacturing/assembly sites and external supplier manufacturing/assembly sites.
  • Perform Measurement & Inspection on a wide variety of products and components and exhibit leadership and co-operation with Quality Metrology Technician team to execute a large volume of Advance and NPD Engineering measurement requests.
  • Understand and execute various levels of Metrology System Analysis including Repeatability, Reproducibility, multivariate Gage R&R, Tool Correlation.  Actively participate in Gage Calibration System with understanding of calibration methods and preventive maintenance.
  • Own and execute Data Analysis & Reporting of Quality Metrology Data Collection efforts.  This begins with leadership in collecting and communicating data through a variety of software and user interfaces including MS Excel, Quality SPC software, and Database data entry.  Ability to perform high level of engineering data analysis, including effective presentation of data as well as communication with engineers about their experimental intent, often leading Design of Experiment or Statistical Process Control setup and execution.
  • Exhibit hands-on leadership with writing work instructions and communicating methodologies to teams of engineers and/or technicians.
  • Understand and utilize Technical Problem Solving methods to work through problems or issues.
  • Know and practice the 5 S's for industrial housekeeping.

Requirements

Valued Skills, Experience, & Education:

  • Quality assurance, quality control experience, or scientific data collection knowledge & experience.  Experience using SPC softwares to store, analyze, and generate reports.
  • Advanced understanding of GD&T per ASME Y14.5 and experience applying it to products to communicate design intent in Product Blueprints and ensure successful manufacturing and measurement of products and components.
  • Computer Aided Design with SolidWorks or NX with ability to download & translate 3D Models, create 3D Models, and generate 2D images or prints.
  • Database Design principles & applications including User Interface & Database Implementation.
  • High level computer skills with the ability to learn new software in a short period of time.
  • BS or MS degrees preferred.  Any education level acceptable with commensurate experience.  Technical certification or degree are a plus.
  • 5+ years of directly related experience.
