The ITS/Traffic Department is actively seeking a creative, self-driven, highly talented Entry Level ITS/Traffic Engineering Associate for employment in the Atlanta, GA office. As an ITS/Traffic Engineering Associate in the ITS/Traffic Department you will assist with a variety of work including traffic safety, traffic signal timing/operations, engineering studies, traffic signal design, ITS planning, ITS architecture, ITS design, and ITS communications. We regularly perform hands-on signal operations work, so you'll have the opportunity to implement and fine-tune traffic signal timing plans, troubleshooting traffic signal equipment, and program and troubleshoot traffic signal and ITS communications network equipment. You'll also have the opportunity to design cutting edge traffic engineering and ITS projects that implement the latest technologies for improving surface street transportation. This position reports to one of our Project Managers.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Design of intersection and traffic design projects according to each agency's standards and plan development processes
  • Development of traffic studies, traffic engineering reports, roundabout feasibility studies, crash analyses, concept reports, road safety audits, and other traffic engineering tasks
  • Development and implementation of coordinated traffic signal timing plans, including building and optimizing Synchro models, developing timing databases, coordinating with agency staff to determine implementation needs/desires, implementing new timings, fine tuning new timings, and conducting before and after travel time studies
  • Assess performance of traffic signal and communications equipment and prepare reports
  • Perform troubleshooting and repair of traffic signal and communications equipment and prepare reports
  • Periodic travel required within Georgia and neighboring states
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited school
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, good time management skills, a strong work ethic, attention to detail
  • Prefer Synchro/SimTraffic and MicroStation skills
  • Capable of using spreadsheet, word processing and standard office software
  • Basic knowledge of industry standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as of Land Desktop/AutoCAD, InRoads, InSite, and MicroStation)
  • Must possess a valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ year of experience
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) preferred
