Currently Hydro One has a career opportunity for a Landscape Planner in the Environmental Services Division.

The Environmental Services Division has approximately one hundred employees who set corporate environmental policy and provide environmental services and support for the planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of Hydro One assets. We have a highly skilled and experienced workforce which obtains environmental approvals and provides construction support for lines and stations projects and operations. Our team is committed to protecting the environment and striving for continual improvement in our environmental management system and performance.

Specifically, we are looking for a Landscape Planner, with at least four years of experience in the field of landscape architecture. Related experience must include working with multi-disciplinary teams as part of the infrastructure planning and design process, developing conceptual landscape plans and detailed landscape designs, along with preparing estimates and specifications for landscaping construction/installation.

General Accountabilities:

  • Reporting to the Manager, Environmental Policy and Approvals department, this position will provide support for environmental planning, capital projects and operations by developing landscape conceptual plans as well as detailed landscape designs.
  • Participate as a member of an interdisciplinary project team; carry out visual and environmental impact studies for capital projects and programs.
  • Consult with the public and government agencies, preparing comprehensive responses, reports and recommendations to be presented at internal and external stakeholder meetings, to advance municipal, provincial or other environmental approvals.
  • Prepare estimates and specifications for landscaping construction/installation.
  • Prepare tender documents, evaluate bids, recommend contract awards and administer contracts, including quality assurance/quality control of consultant and contractor work.
  • Provide support for environmental approvals and permitting processes for Hydro One transmission/distribution lines and stations projects.

Selection Criteria

Essential Competencies:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with landscape planning, design and municipal permits and approvals processes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with contract administration and management for landscape construction/installation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with plant identification including winter identification and assessing/evaluating the health of plants and landscapes.
  • To be an associate member of the Ontario Association of Landscape Architects (OALA) and be eligible for full membership in the OALA is considered an asset.
  • Strong technical writing skills for the preparation of reports, approval documents and specifications.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated record of self-motivated behavior and perseverance to accomplish objectives
  • Requires experience with Windows software (MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint)
  • Requires experience using AutoCAD, mobile applications, SLF camera, digital cameras, measuring devices, GPS, ortho imagery, GIS and related database systems and tools.
  • This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired though the completion of a four year university degree in landscape architecture
  • At least four years of related working experience in landscape architecture or equivalent field is required.
