Creates and communicates a vision which anticipates, identifies, and explains challenges and opportunities that ERCOT and the market will encounter.  Guides and supports development of strategy and operational modifications to the wholesale electricity markets within ERCOT.  Supports resolutions to market issues and develops solutions related to technology, operational efficiencies and marketplace interchange for market participants and other stakeholders. Establishes, monitors, and refines workflow and business processes to meet Commercial Operations goals activity related to the functions for wholesale electricity design and transactions.  Supports regulatory assignments of Commercial Operations at the PUCT and other regulatory agencies.  Mentors and develops ERCOT staff to improve understanding of needs in the Wholesale Market.

Essential Job Duties and Tasks

  • Participates in stakeholder process as an expert resource on Wholesale Markets.

  • Represents ERCOT on panels, committees, and/or advisory boards and gathers information from industry sources.

  • Represents ERCOT at outside gatherings like conferences, seminars, and public hearings.

  • Develops and maintains an expert level of understanding of commercial activities related to the competitive energy markets in North America and abroad.

  • Delivers presentations and addresses at industry and marketplace events.

  • Pro-actively includes other departments as necessary in intra-departmental issues by promoting communication and information sharing between other departments.

  • Draws upon ERCOT business units and subject matters experts to coordinate action and build cooperation with both internal and external groups.

  • Supports projects, as necessary, to implement or modify Commercial Operations Systems including future enhancements and change requests.

  • Identifies key issues that need to be addressed by management.  Raises appropriate level of issue awareness to upper management for actions and decisions, and provides them background information and options for addressing those issues.

  • Maintains working knowledge of ERCOT Grid Operations and their impact on commercial operations.

  • Has experience utilizing data analytic tools to present complex topics and facilitate the delivery of programs, positions and policy.

  • Mentors other ERCOT Principals and technical personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's Degree: Engineering, Economics or related discipline required

  • Master's Degree: Engineering, Economics or related discipline preferred

  • Or a combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge to a major in such fields is required

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Requires minimum 10 years (in excess of degree requirements stated above) of progressively responsible experience in electric industry

  • Recognized as a subject matter expert, possessing specialized advanced technical skills and competencies.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze market impacts using large data sets.

  • Experience with SAS, R, and/or Python.
