A special message from Office of Electricity (OE) Assistant Secretary Katie Jereza:
Energy Secretary Chris Wright today (Nov 21) announced the realignment of the Department of Energy to more efficiently and effectively support the President's agenda to unleash American energy dominance and expand our energy production while reducing costs at the same time.
I'm excited about the change and the merger of some of the programs and functions from the Grid Deployment Office (GDO) to the Office of Electricity. This union will further strengthen our ability to: stabilize the grid to address the immediate, acute needs that are straining reliability; optimize the grid to get improved performance from the grid while maintaining affordability; and grow the grid by tapping into our many energy resources, including nuclear energy, natural gas, and coal.
OE will now be part of the Under Secretary of Energy organization, which is leading DOE's energy dominance mission. OE will now absorb many of the functions currently in GDO. They include Grants, the Puerto Rico Resilience Fund, Presidential Permits, Export Authorizations, Environmental Reviews, National Transmission Studies, the Needs study, and National Interest Transmission Electric Corridors.
The Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations energy storage program is transferring to OE.
There are no employee reductions in force (RIFs) planned with any of these moves.
I hope all of you are as excited as I am to embrace these changes. We are now better positioned to demonstrate to the world our leadership in scientific and technological innovation.
OE is looking forward to partnering with you as we implement these important and common-sense changes.
Katie Jereza
Assistant Secretary for the Office of Electricity
