Systems With Intelligence (SWI) announced the IM500 PoE, a new version of the successful IM500 IoT module, that gives users the ability to connect with the SWI Cloud using a wired Power over Ethernet connection instead of WiFi or cellular service.

The IM500 monitors and collects asset health data from remote sites and assets. Thermal monitoring mitigates the risks of failure from overheating assets and connection points with analytics that detect thermal anomalies. The system provides automatic warnings to operators through email or by connection to the utility Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, (SCADA), or Asset Performance Management, (APM), system. The visual camera provides situational awareness in remote locations.

"Not all of our customer's locations are suitable for wireless coverage," said Angelo Rizzo, president and CEO of Systems With Intelligence. "And some would just prefer to use Ethernet on their own network instead of using wireless. The IM500 PoE provides our customers with another option to connect the IM500 to the SWI Cloud."

The PoE version provides communication over the customer's internal wired network instead of over the cellular or WiFi network. Many customers have sites in locations that are not suitable for wireless connectivity, or they need a connection inside buildings, vaults or cabinets where the wireless signal can be blocked. The PoE option provides a means to connect the IM500 module to the network in these challenging locations.

With the PoE option, users will also see improved response time when taking thermal and visual snapshots and there will be fewer limitations on the monthly snapshot capacity.
