Description

This role will assist with the coordination efforts to advance our engagement activities, policy development, and economic reconciliation efforts with Indigenous communities as a member of the Indigenous Relations Team.

Job Description:
1. Work collaboratively with the IR team to support various engagement activities, including the coordination of project engagement plans, regulatory materials, consultations logs, budgets and other departmental deliverables.
2. Assist with the implementation of policies, standardized processes, and approaches related to Indigenous Relations. Research and draft documentation in support of policy development and engagements.
3. Assist the broader IR team with meeting minutes, consultation records, community profiles and other regulatory or reporting materials to ensure they are complete, updated and organized to advance the Indigenous Relations efforts.
4. Monitor and report on the implementation of the IR strategy and project plans.
5. Coordinate and support the IR team in reviewing invoices, processing payments, tracking budgets, and compiling data for reports required of the IR team.
6. Contribute to the organization of engagement activities, both internal and external, such as public information centres, virtual meetings, cultural awareness activities, community events, etc., and support the participation of Hydro One in various external organizations related to IR.
7. Support the building of relationships with Indigenous communities by representing the company in dealing with community leaders, elders and other representatives. As well assist in the resolution of IR issues with respect to Hydro One projects, operations and policies though
working with the larger IR team and relevant Hydro One LoB's and community representative.
8. Perform other duties as required.

Selection Criteria

Education: 

  • Requires knowledge of business administration or Indigenous or Environmental studies to support the work undertaken in the Indigenous Relations.
  • Requires a good knowledge of English to prepare documentation and communication skills to effectively communicate to all levels of management and government officials, provincial authorities, government agencies and Indigenous community leaders.  This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the completion of 4 years of University training (Grade XII plus 5 years).

Experience:

  • Requires lived or professional experience working with Indigenous Peoples in Ontario.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task in fast paced environments with changing priorities.
  • Requires good organizational and collaboration skills.
  • Experience in assisting with research, drafting reports and assisting with records management is an asset.
  • Familiarity with Borealis is considered an asset.
