Job Description As a Systems Engineer for Grass Valley, you will scope, install, and configure system architectures and new technologies for the Server and Stratus teams in our lab environment. You will be a key team member in discussions on planning the roll-out and configurations of systems to our new or existing customers. You will be working closely with Engineering, Field Service, and many 3rd party vendors to gather information and requirements for these installations.
This position will work together with the other members of the systems group within Development Engineering. This person will interface often with Project Management, Program Management, Tech Pubs, Software engineers, Hardware engineers, and Product owners. This position may work with Customer Service to help troubleshoot key customer configuration or installation issues.
This position will play an important role working with 3rd party integration companies and vendors. Direct contact with representatives will be required. Keeping a strong relationship with vendors is a key for success in this position. Some travel may occur. Local travel to train, or learn about new technologies from vendors, likely to occur.

Responsibilities
- Manage and monitor installed systems and infrastructure at the Hillsboro location
- Become fully engaged in Grass Valley's products, workflows and topologies
- Install, configure and test operating systems, application software and system management tools
- Participate in design and implementation of systems architectures.
- Validate 3rd party equipment integration with Grass Valley's infrastructure
- Write scripts to help monitor and gather information critical to successful completion on projects
- Interact with development engineering and product owners on a regular basis
- Investigate performance and stability issues involving a large, sophisticated, and evolving set of hardware and software
- Interact with vendors and other IT personnel
Requirements
Requirements
- BS/MS Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related subject.
- 6+ years' experience working in IT networked environments or hardware and software labs.
- Proven experience using VMware and Virtualization software.
- Experience or strong knowledge in data security.
- Proven working knowledge of networking configurations, switch configurations, troubleshooting and tuning required.
- Experience with Network load balancing preferred
- Experience in large scale storage solutions and topologies
- Knowledge of video broadcast technology, and data storage highly preferred
- Experience working with Windows embedded software highly preferred.
- Experience with monitoring systems.
- Ability to react quickly and adapt to changes in priorities, circumstances, and direction.
- Automation software or scripting experience preferred.
- Ability to exercise judgment with minimal supervision.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities.
- Self-starter with a strong initiative for success.
