Description

Job Summary

This position is responsible for performing preventative maintenance (PM), inspections and basic repairs on utility vehicles and equipment.  Includes, but is not limited to passenger cars, pickup trucks, SUVs, medium and heavy trucks, trailers and off road equipment. Maintenance operations may take place in the garage or at field locations during various work schedules depending on business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance inspections on light & medium duty vehicles/equipment and assist higher classification of technicians with PMs on all vehicles and equipment.
  • Assist with federal DOT inspections.
  • Adhere to all Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR) for DOT inspections.
  • Provide assistance on dielectric test inspections.
  • Perform diagnostics and repairs on light and medium vehicles, (gas & diesel) forklifts, trailers and powered equipment.
  • Maintain the appropriate level of technical competence required to diagnose and repair vehicles/equipment.  
  • Perform hydraulic brake systems and component repairs.
  • Assist with hydraulic component repairs.
  • Assist with air brake system inspections and repairs.
  • Assist higher classification of technicians with diagnostics and repairs on all vehicles/equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair basic electric system components, cranking, lighting, charging and assist with basic A/C systems and component repairs.

Required/Basic Qualifications

Note: This posting is for one open position. Dependent on relative experience, the level to which a candidate is aligned is outlined below.

Vehicle Maintenance Technician I:

  • Associate's degree or certificate in auto, diesel, or heavy equipment mechanics from a vocational school
  • In addition to required degree or certificate, one (1) year minimum of related experience
  • In lieu of degree or certificate AND one (1) year minimum of related experience, high school diploma/GED AND two (2) years minimum of related experience

Vehicle Maintenance Technician II:

  • Associate's degree or certificate in auto, diesel, or heavy equipment mechanics from a vocational school
  • In addition to required degree or certificate, two (2) years minimum of related experience
  • In lieu of degree or certificate AND two (2) years minimum of related experience, high school diploma/GED AND four (4) years minimum of related experience

Desired Qualifications

  • Electric utility fleet experience
  • Basic hydraulic experience
  • ASE certifications
  • AWS welding certifications
  • Effective communication (both written and oral) and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to interact effectively with peers, customers and management
  • Ability to make sound decisions, exercising good judgement and setting priorities
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Experience with computer equipment, laptops, keyboard, tablets, etc.
